Monroe County and the Greater Rochester International Airport, winners of the Governor's Upstate Airport Revitalization Program, initiated a large-scale $79 million terminal renovation program to improve and revitalize its airport terminal. Completed on time, the program, coupled with a stunning new entrance canopy, reconfigured the security checkpoint, expanded the terminal building, enhanced the concessions area, implemented communication technology for the hearing impaired, and upgraded infrastructure.
CHA led the design and construction administration for the impressive and technological upgrade. Bag left behind and new facial recognition technology—the first of its kind in Upstate New York—upgraded security cameras and an expanded, centralized checkpoint enhance the safety and security of employees and passengers. Cutting-edge hearing loop and American Sign Language-to-Voice (ASL-to-Voice) technologies are incorporated throughout the terminal to assist deaf and hearing-impaired individuals with conducting transactions. Innovative color-coded concourse ribbons and communicative LED lighting in the gate holding area are integrated with Flight Information Display System (FIDS) data and the public address system to intuitively guide passengers to gates and areas with informative messaging. The renovated terminal brings a new "front door" experience to the community and visitors of all abilities.
