CHA executed the installation of an 8-inch HDPE HP carrier gas main within a 16-inch HDPE casing spanning a water body connecting City Island and mainland Bronx, New York. The installation spanned approximately 1,200 feet and involved collaboration with NYSOPRHP, NYSDOT, and USACOE.
CHA conducted a comprehensive site survey to gather accurate data regarding existing conditions, establish horizontal and vertical controls, and create a detailed basemap of the proposed route. A thorough geotechnical exploration was performed to assess soil conditions and conduct soil tests. Drawing insights from the exploration, as well as utility research and consultations with local authorities and Con Edison, CHA developed engineered construction plans. The project featured two tie locations at the western and eastern ends of the intended route, linking to new 8-inch transmission mains. CHA successfully managed several challenges throughout the project, ensuring the installation was technically precise and aligned with the specified guidelines, regulations, schedule, and timeline.
