Avon Grove High School, accredited by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, serves a diverse community in a rural-suburban setting southwest of Philadelphia, PA. Avon Grove School District engaged CHA during the pre-design phase to assemble the design team and provide value engineering, cost estimating, and coordination of design documents for the district’s new high school project. During construction, CHA oversaw construction phasing and bid document review and provided full-time on-site project representation.
The greenfield site required both standard earthmoving and advanced soil improvements, including rammed aggregate piers for foundations and soil cement stabilization for roads. Additionally, local authorities required the construction of a “loop road” with PennDOT intersection and signaling upgrades to align with the Town Center master plan.
The new high school features high-speed wireless access throughout, smart classrooms with advanced lighting and temperature controls, and a robust central plant with high-efficiency systems. The building management system integrates lighting, HVAC, and security controls, while the auditorium, gymnasiums, and other key spaces are equipped with versatile, wireless sound systems to support a wide range of events.
Avon Grove High School enrolls over 1,800 students.
The new facility encompasses 297,200 square feet.
Three high-efficiency gas boilers and chiller units provide redundancy and maximum efficiency.
