Sarah E. Bowman, PE, PTOE has joined the esteemed ranks of the Capital Region (NY) Chamber of Commerce’s Women of Excellence. Today at the 26th Women of Excellence Awards Luncheon in Albany, New York, Sarah was named the 2017 Emerging Professional. The Women of Excellence Awards is hosted annually by the Women's Business Council (WBC) and honors six women for their success in business and their significant contributions to the community. The Emerging Professional award is presented to a young professional who demonstrates upward career mobility, leadership skills and a promising future.
"This is a prestigious and well deserved honor for Sarah Bowman, one of CHA's outstanding young engineers," said Margaret Rudzinski, Senior Vice President and 2007 Woman of Excellence winner. "Sarah is a tremendous asset to CHA, the field of engineering and the many community organizations she volunteers for, which is why she was selected over so many impressive nominees."
As Traffic Squad Leader/Project Engineer, Sarah oversees CHA projects, supervises staff, and plays an integral role in projects for local and state agencies in Connecticut, New York, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. A Capital Region native, Sarah's greatest professional accomplishment is working on projects that directly benefit the communities where she lives and works. She is especially proud of her work as principal designer for the traffic analysis and signal system design on the $11.5 million Erie Boulevard Reconstruction in Schenectady, which was awarded Project of the Year by the American Public Works Association and a Gold Award for Engineering Excellence by the American Council of Engineering Companies in New York.
Outside CHA, Sarah is the Technical Committee Chair for the Institute of Transportation Engineers New York Upstate Section. She also served on the local arrangements committee for the Transportation & Planning Symposium (2011-2015) and the 2012 and 2015 Institute of Transportation Engineers Northeastern District Meetings. Sarah regularly volunteers to judge middle school students' essays and presentations to solve citywide sustainability issues for the Capital District's Future City® Competition.
Sarah is an exceptional engineer who, in a very short time, has become an industry leader and created lasting improvements in the Capital Region and beyond. Congratulations to Sarah on this outstanding accomplishment!
