CHA Wins ACEC New York Platinum Award for Revitalizing Albany's Iconic Lark Street

Posted November 21, 2024

CHA Consulting, Inc. (CHA) has earned a prestigious 2025 ACEC New York Platinum Award in the Transportation category for the Rehabilitation of Albany's Lark Street. This recognition celebrates CHA’s dedication to enhancing communities through innovative and sustainable design solutions.

Lark Street, often referred to as the “Greenwich Village” of Albany, is a hub of unique businesses, galleries, and restaurants. The project revitalized this historic 0.5-mile corridor, improving pedestrian safety, traffic flow, accessibility, and aesthetics while preserving its distinctive charm. Key innovations included cold milling techniques to restore the pavement’s historical layers, ADA-compliant ramps, and high-visibility crosswalks. Thoughtful touches, such as decorative festoon lighting and redesigned tree pits, contribute to the neighborhood’s charm.

CHA worked closely with the City of Albany and the Lark Street Business Improvement District to meet both immediate infrastructure needs and long-term community goals. Completed on budget and on schedule, the rehabilitation was lauded for its minimal disruption to businesses and its role in supporting economic revitalization by fostering a walkable, vibrant neighborhood.
