CHA Honored with Two APWA Project of the Year Awards

Posted April 9, 2025

CHA Consulting, Inc. (CHA) has been recognized with two prestigious awards at the American Public Works Association (APWA) Public Works Project of the Year Awards. The Replacement of East Canal Road Bridge over Donner Brook received recognition from the APWA New York Western Branch, while the Rehabilitation of Albany’s Lark Street was honored by the APWA New York Capital Branch. These accolades underscore CHA’s unwavering commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable infrastructure solutions.

Replacement of East Canal Road Bridge over Donner Brook

The Niagara County Department of Public Works received the 2024 Project of the Year – Structures (Less than $5 Million) award for the replacement of the East Canal Road Bridge over Donner Brook. The new structure, a 24 ft clear span by 7 ½ ft clear rise 4-sided precast concrete box, was designed to meet a compressed schedule and minimize disruption to the traveling public. Despite unprecedented rainfall and unstable soil conditions, the project team successfully completed the bridge replacement within the 2024 construction season, utilizing precast concrete components for sustainability and efficiency.

Rehabilitation of Albany’s Lark Street

The City of Albany's rehabilitation of Lark Street earned the 2025 Project of the Year – Transportation (Less than $5 Million) award. Known as the “Greenwich Village” of New York’s Capital City, Lark Street's rehabilitation aimed to improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety, accessibility, and aesthetics while preserving its eclectic charm. The project restored deteriorated pavement, enhanced pedestrian safety with new curb ramps and sidewalks, and maintained traffic flow through strategic work zone traffic control, ensuring minimal disruption to the community.

CHA’s award-winning projects were celebrated alongside other exemplary achievements at the APWA Public Works Project of the Year Awards Banquets in New York. These honors not only highlight CHA’s technical ingenuity and dedication to excellence but also reinforce their role as a leader in shaping the future of public infrastructure.
