CHA Designs GRIA Taxiway Extension

Posted September 25, 2014

The Greater Rochester International Airport (GRIA), owned and operated by Monroe County, is one step closer to optimizing it runway capabilities. As the summer comes to a close, CHA will provide construction administration and inspection services for the extension of Taxiway E to the west side of the airport’s main runway. This is the latest project to advance to contract as part of CHA’s term agreement in Rochester, New York.

The CHA-designed Taxiway E Extension will provide direct access between the airport’s main runway and a neighboring runway along with access to corporate parking exiting the runway. Once constructed, the taxiway will support midsize to large aircraft for take-off from the new threshold of this adjacent runway. The section of asphalt pavement to be built is approximately 1,000 feet long by 75 feet wide. The pavement is designed to accommodate the load of daily traffic in accordance with the airport layout plan and FAA regulations.

The new taxiway will improve runway capacity and allow for new development west of the main runway, such as additional air cargo facilities. Construction is expected to be finished by May 2015.
